Ahmadul Kabir, Malaysia:
The country’s immigration department has detained 51 illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis, in Malaysia. They were detained during a raid in Besar Pole area of Klang Pacha, Malaysia on Friday night (May 27). Among the 51 detainees are citizens of Myanmar, Bangladesh, Indonesia and India. However, it was not known how many of them are Bangladeshis.
The country’s interior ministry has questioned the arbitrary provisions of the UN refugee card. They also questioned the actions of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in issuing refugee identification cards after receiving refugee cards from a number of Indonesians during the operation. Malaysia also said the interior ministry would continue its investigation into the arrest of 60 Rohingya refugees who are still at large after fleeing an immigration detention center in Kedah last month.
