E-gate was launched in Bangladesh today as the first country in South Asia. From now on, passengers will be able to immigrate to Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in just 18 seconds. With the introduction of this new system, passengers will be able to complete immigration without any kind of harassment and suffering.

As per the earlier announcement, 27 e-gates of the airport were launched today (June 7). As a result, the immigration process will end automatically and quickly. Group Captain Kamrul Islam, executive director of the airport, told the media on Tuesday (June 7th) that some passengers were successfully completed immigration through e-gate on a trial basis on Monday. Arrangements have been made to fully launch e-gate for passengers on Tuesday. With this, passengers with e-passport can cross the e-gate in 16 seconds after verification.

Additional IGP of Special Branch (SB) Monirul Islam and Director of e-Passport Immigration Project Brigadier General Sadat Hossain were present at the inauguration of the program today. Immigration process is completed through e-gate in front of them.

According to the Bangladesh Passport and Immigration Department, when a person holding an e-passport goes to the e-gate with an e-passport, if he puts the e-passport in a certain place, the gate will open immediately. The camera will take pictures after standing under the gate according to certain rules. After that, if all goes well, passengers will be able to pass immigration in a few seconds. But if someone makes a mistake, the red light will come on. Then the officials in charge will assist the person concerned in using the e-passport properly.
