Expatriate work visas are prohibited for 207 occupations in Oman

His Excellency Dr. Mahahad bin Saeed bin Ali Bawein, Minister of Labor, issued a ministerial decision regulating the practice of some professions.

According to the official gazette issued, the decision stipulated 207 jobs that non-Omanis are prohibited from practicing.

The text of the decision was:

Ministerial Resolution No. 35/2022 regulating the practice of some professions

Based on the Labor Law issued by Royal Decree No. 35/2003, and Royal Decree No. 89/2020 establishing the Ministry of Labor, defining its terms of reference and approving its organizational structure,

Ministerial Resolution No. 125/94 regarding the rules for licensing the recruitment of non-Omani workers,

Ministerial Resolution No. 79/2008 regulating the practice of certain professions, businesses and activities in some states

Ministerial Resolution No. 445/2009 regulating the practice of professions in the field of reception in private health institutions and health clubs,

Ministerial Resolution No. 444/2010 regulating the practice of some professions, businesses and activities in some states

Ministerial Resolution No. 618/2013 regulating the practice of some professions,

Ministerial Resolution No. 31/2015 regulating some professions,

Ministerial Resolution No. 533/2018 regulating some professions,

Ministerial Resolution No. 221/2016 regulating some professions,

Ministerial Resolution No. 2020 47 regulating some professions,

Ministerial Resolution No. 182/2020 regulating some professions,

Ministerial Resolution No. 3/2021 regulating the practice of some professions,

Ministerial Resolution No. 8-2021 regulating some professions and activities, and Ministerial Resolution No. 9/2021 regulating the practice of certain professions. Practicing the profession of driving vehicles, and to Ministerial Resolution No. 20/2021 regulating the practice of some professions in private higher education institutions, and based on what is required by the public interest.

Article One

The non-Omani workforce is prohibited from practicing the professions set out in the annex attached to this decision. Official Gazette Issue (1450)

Article Two

The licenses for the recruitment of non-Omani manpower and licenses to practice work issued for the professions set out in the annex attached to this decision shall be valid until the date of its expiry.

Article Three

Repealing Ministerial Resolutions Nos.: (125/94, 799/2008, 445/2009, 444/2010, 618/2013, 31/2015, 533/2012, 221/2016, 47/2020, 2020/2020 and 8/2021, 9/2021, and 20/2021) referred to, and all that contradicts this resolution and the annex attached to it, or contravenes with their provisions, shall be cancelled.

Article Four

This decision shall be published in the Official Gazette, and shall come into force from the day following the date of its publication.
